Preparing for the Launch of Libya’s First School on Internet Governance

The Internet Society of Libya (ISOC Libya), in partnership with the Annir Initiative and the Internet Society, is excited to announce the commencement of the final preparations for the first-ever School on Internet Governance (Libya SIG). We have begun reaching out to the selected participants, and we eagerly await their confirmations. This marks a significant step toward empowering the next generation of Libyan leaders in digital policy and internet governance.

A Competitive Selection Process

We were overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and interest shown by the Libyan community, with over 200 applications received from all corners of the country. The selection process was rigorous and challenging, as each application demonstrated a high level of commitment and potential to contribute to the future of internet governance in Libya. Our team meticulously reviewed every application to ensure that the chosen participants represent the best and brightest minds, ready to tackle the complex issues surrounding internet governance.

Countdown to the School’s Launch

With the school set to begin in less than nine days, on August 5, 2024, the anticipation is building. The Libya SIG will be an intensive program designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate and influence the digital landscape. The program will cover a wide range of topics, including internet policy, cybersecurity, digital rights, and the role of stakeholders in internet governance.

Participants will benefit from a hybrid format that combines in-person workshops and online sessions, allowing for a flexible and inclusive learning experience. This approach ensures that all participants, regardless of their location within Libya, can fully engage and benefit from the program.

Next Steps for Participants

Selected participants should keep a close eye on their emails in the coming days. Confirmation of participation is crucial as it will secure their spot in this prestigious program. The organizers are eager to finalize the list and begin the journey of learning and collaboration that Libya SIG promises to deliver.

This program is not just an educational opportunity; it is a platform for participants to connect with like-minded individuals, engage with experts in the field, and become part of a growing network of internet governance advocates in Libya.

Why Libya SIG Matters

The launch of Libya SIG is a milestone for the country as it represents the first structured effort to cultivate expertise in internet governance. In a world where digital policies increasingly shape national and global landscapes, having a well-informed and capable group of leaders is essential for Libya’s digital future. The participants of Libya SIG will be at the forefront of this effort, driving change and ensuring that Libya’s voice is heard in the global digital discourse.

Looking Ahead

As the start date approaches, ISOC Libya, the Annir Initiative, and the Internet Society are working tirelessly to ensure that the inaugural session of Libya SIG is a success. We are confident that this program will lay the groundwork for a more connected, secure, and resilient Libya.
